Freshman year, on a few occasions I had the opportunity to go swing dancing with friends. This year I decided to try attending Hepcats meetings. Hepcats is a UC organization built for swing dancing. The structure of the meeting is one hour of lessons that are taught cyclically covering different types of swing dancing, and ends with an hour of social dancing. This structure allowed me to both work on a hobby that I enjoyed and to create new friendships. While there, I was able to attend many dances that helped build confidence.
One significant relationship I developed this year was with one of my coworkers, Joe. While on co-op, he and I worked together nearly daily on different projects. He mentored me on industry and company specific guidelines and helped me learn how to correctly work with our systems. This was extremely helpful as it allowed me to get feedback quicker and more consistently than in the past. It also made work seem simpler as there was someone who could help me problem solve whatever I did not know.
One goal I have set for myself in the next year is to work on becoming more organized. I tend to start every semester with a well-organized backpack, a few pencils, and a thing of paper. Every paper is correctly filed in its place. As the semester progresses, I tend to move towards searching through a giant stack of mismatched papers in hopes of finding my notes. This year I plan on tackling this by having a binder for each subject and reorganizing my backpack each Friday.
I plan on using my talents to help give back to my church organization. I will achieve this by working with them to develop a better way to distribute information. So far I have reorganized the email and mailing lists. In the upcoming year I will use my design and computer skills to create a more efficient and optimized website using Wix, a website designing software. This will allow us to showcase to potential donors what we as an organization do, as well as provide information to students as to what events are going on.
One passion that I have is cooking. I find solace in the act of setting aside a chunk of time to just prep and cook a meal. I have currently been working on developing this passion using recipes I find off of Pinterest. I have set the goal of trying at least one recipe each week that I have either not made or not made successfully before. This allows me to constantly increase my repertoire of dishes I can make.
